Back on track

now we’re getting somewhere…

Running has been going well and the injury has almost disappeared. So much so that I’m planning the first big run for a month on Saturday. We’re only half way through march and yet I’ve already surpassed the mileage I managed in February. This in itself is pleasing, but I still have to build the distance confidence which has disappeared since the injury. That comes Saturday, I hope! Along with the reward of a massage…

As you get older injuries seem to take longer to heal physically, but mentally it’s harder. The damage to confidence when an injury happens worsens the longer the physical side takes to heal. In our minds we tend to still think of ourselves as impregnable.

I’m still 19 or 20 in my mind and when you’re that age nothing will break you. Injuries disappear in the blink of an eye or you can run them off; a little stretch and it’s fixed.

At double that age (which I have to accept seeing as I have a child of nearly 16!) the body can take weeks of creaking and involuntary noise production to fix itself, but because our minds still consider us unbreakable we try and ignore it and run it, stretch it and drink it off – which ultimately just slows the healing process down. The longer it takes, the harder the confidence to run long distance is to rebuild.

So the greatest medicine for healing injuries and confidence, is patience. Give it time; work towards the goal progressively, build gradually and the confidence will follow. Never give up, but never try and rush results.

Money
The money is coming in and patience applies here too, but some cheek goes a long way. I am now just £99 from the first target of £900. The legion will be pleased.

So why not do your bit? Reach down the side of the sofa, find that spare change you were saving for a cheeky takeaway… Open up the laptop and enter this address http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RittesRaisingMoney and give it to a charity that supports all servicemen!!
